On Thursday, 22 October, we will be guests of Die Linke Tempelhof-Schöneberg and warmly invite you to a talk followed by a discussion:

Fundamental Principles of Communist Production and Distribution – An Introduction to Labour Time Accounting as the Basis of Economic Self-Management

Socialisation is currently on everyone’s lips within the political left. But what does socialisation actually mean? How does it differ from nationalisation, for example? How do socialised enterprises run their economy? Does money still play a role? All of these questions are being widely discussed at the moment.

We would like to present and discuss a concept that was developed almost a hundred years ago by the Group of International Communists (GIC), building on the experiences of the council movement after the First World War and in contrast to Soviet state socialism. At its heart lies the question of how an economy oriented towards needs can be established without creating new forms of alienation and exploitation – an economy, in other words, that is entirely self-organised.

The talk introduces the historical context of the GIC and presents the concept of labour time accounting, which plays a central role in their theory. Afterwards, we want to discuss together what perspectives it opens up for today.

A cooperation between Die Linke Tempelhof-Schöneberg and the Initiative Demokratische Arbeitszeitrechnung (IDA).
