Film Screening and Discussion: “Ohne Chefs”

We warmly invite you to a film screening followed by a discussion on January 29:

Film: Ohne Chefs – Demokratie bei der Arbeit (2025)

Some people cannot imagine a life without work. Even fewer can imagine work without a boss. Yet there are already projects today that function entirely without bosses.

We embark on a journey into another world: an alternative economy that wants—and has—to function within the omnipresent capitalism. An alternative that lives in a constant state of struggle. Because solidarity, collective economic activity, and mutual aid are not the norm—they are hard-won exceptions.

People talk about how they dedicate their lives to the idea of a better future. About how they support one another in solidarity and how, through this, they take a stand against exploitation and dehumanization.

“Ohne Chefs” aims to be accessible and to reach people who have always believed there is no alternative to hard labor under bosses. We show the people behind the ideas of “democracy in the workplace” and demonstrate that they are, after all, quite ordinary people.

The film is 52 minutes long, followed by:

Panel Discussion: The Benefits and Drawbacks of Collective Economic Models

Collective enterprises promise more self-determined and less alienated work, as employees make decisions together and no boss gives orders. In the film Ohne Chefs, it becomes clear that this is not just an appealing idea, but one that leads many people to a more fulfilling working life and allows them to identify more strongly with their work. But is it really enough for a sufficient number of collective enterprises to come together for the problems of our society to resolve themselves and for capitalism to abolish itself? How can collective enterprises move out of a defensive position? How can they become the dominant organizational form of society as a whole?
