Labor Time Calculation - Socialism of the 21st Century

Our association, the Initiative for Democratic Working Time Accounting, was founded in 2021. We believe that capitalism must be overcome, as its regulating principle, value, is unsuitable for a democratic and sustainable society.

We aim to contribute to deeper thinking about the economy of a new society, helping the political left to move out of its defensive position. We see great potential in a decentralized planned economy based on labour time calculation, as formulated by the “Group of International Communists” (GIK) in the 1920s.

Our association organizes public lectures, which are held both in Germany and internationally. Additionally, we are developing an app that facilitates the practical implementation of working time accounting. For initial model projects along smaller supply chains, we are networking with cooperatives and self-managed collective enterprises. Furthermore, we host online reading groups where texts on working time accounting are read and discussed collectively. We are also connected through the International Network for Democratic Economic Planning (INDEP), of which we are a member.

To ensure smooth infrastructure for our association, we use an office space in the publishing building of neues deutschland (nd) at Berlin’s Ostbahnhof.
